What work programs are available for the person I support?

There are several programs in Massachusetts designed to help people with disabilities work. 

These programs not only help you find a job but can train and mentor the person you support.

Mass Ability
Helps people with disabilities expand their training and career options.  In addition, they can provide the person you support with Assistive Technology to be able to fully participate in work.

MassHire Career Centers
Are federally funded to provide employment and training.  They offer one-to-one support to help the person you support meet their employment goals

Work Without Limits
Is a network of employers and people with disabilities that work together to increase employment of people with disability.  The network connects employers with people who have the skills they need.

There are a couple different types of employment:

They will help you work through all the rules related to other disability benefits and find a job that suits the person you support.

Competitive Integrated Employment Based on Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA):

Work with similar pay, skills, benefits, location, benefits, advancement and integrated with employees who are not individuals with disabilities.

Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA)

Employment for or an individual with a significant disability:  Based on an individualized determination of the unique strengths. Carried out through flexible strategies, such as customizing the job description, set of job duties, a work schedule

When in doubt about what you need or are eligible for contact your Family Support Center .  They can help you identify your Service Coordinator and others to help you.
