Narrative

Advocates Shared Living matches people with disabilities (PwD) to members of the community. They provide care at home, much like a family member. People gain greater independence and opportunities for an active lifestyle. They have the support and companionship of someone who cares for them at home. Our team works closely with people and their families. We set up living situations that truly feel like home. We’re guided by their wishes, interests, and needs. PwD are empowered to make choices about where they want to live and with whom.

Community members who serve as caregivers in Shared Living work to support their new roommates in these ways:

  • they create a safe home setting
  • they encourage PwD to be members of the community and form relationships
  • they support their goals and dreams
  • they help with daily routines and activities
