Narrative

BHN’s Shared Living program provides in-home placement for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). They are placed with welcoming people and families in their community. These long-term placements give support to let the person live a meaningful life at home. People can thrive in their community independently.

Shared Living Providers are kind caregivers that support the needs of the person. They help with everyday needs that include:

  • meal prep
  • meds management
  • money management
  • transportation (rides)

Like many families, they can go to social events and community activities together. BHN’s careful screening process ensures living situations are compatible. It is based upon the person's and provider's interests and values.

BHN provides training, support, and monthly pay along with the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) and a generous tax-free stipend.
