Narrative

The Options for Community Living Program is a community-based supported living model of services. Program is set up to meet the needs of people with developmental/physical disabilities, including acquired brain injury (ABI). People receive supports while living in accessible apartments in eastern Massachusetts communities. The service model resembles that of independent living programs. Additional supports to address skill areas which a person cannot presently manage independently.

Help provided is designed to let each person reach their highest functional skill levels in areas like:

  • personal care attendant (PCA) management
  • transportation (rides)
  • finances (money)
  • health management
  • household management
  • community access
  • self-advocacy
  • self-care
  • social/recreation

To prevent case management from becoming a means of dependency, staff intervention is limited to the lowest level of help needed to enable a person to pursue independent living goals. The case manager’s tasks are geared toward enabling a person to follow up on his/her initiatives. Technical help is given to boost skills affected by a person's disability-related impairments.
